Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’ among bests of the decade

Critics of the US newspaper Los Angeles Times have selected Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’ as one of the world’s top ten films of the last decade.

As the decade comes to an end, Kenneth Turan and Justin Chang, critics of the mentioned journal, published a list of 10 essential cinematic achievements that in their view are of great value.

Their list includes works of cinema’s big names such as ‘Amour’ by Michael Haneke, ‘I Am Not Your Negro’ by Raoul Peck, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ by George Miller, etc. and Farhadi’s masterpiece is among the titles.

“Asghar Farhadi’s 2011 tale of a family and a society coming apart is a gripping, ultimately devastating weave of domestic drama and detective fiction: as intricate and suspenseful as Hitchcock, as compassionate and multi-threaded as Renoir, but with a laserlike intelligence that is all Farhadi’s own,” Chang wrote about Farhadi’s movie.

The Iranian director's most famous movie, ‘A Separation’, grabbed global recognition as the first Iranian movie to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

Besides Oscar, the movie received the Golden Bear for Best Film and the Silver Bear for Best Actress and Best Actor at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Germany, becoming the first Iranian film to win the Golden Bear.

It also won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Feature Film.
